Tips for the correct height to hang your art
So you get your new painting home and can’t wait to get it on the wall!
Follow these tips to get the right position.
It’s not really that difficult, as easy as 1,2,3.
1. The right height.
The general rule for the hanging height is 57” from the floor to the centre of your painting (this is eye-level for the average person).
When in doubt, hang lower and not higher, especially if you are hanging your art above a piece of furniture like a console table, bed, or couch. When hanging an artwork, always use a tape measure and a spirit level to be certain that works are hanging straight.
2. Pay attention to fixings
As a rough guide most of the large framed art (90-140cm ) weigh around 4-5KG. With this in mind I would always recommend using raw plugs and screws into the wall, opting for double fixings on either side of the work, rather than a single, central fixing, this will help prevent the work hanging forward.
3. Positioning.
Be mindful not to hang your new art in direct sunlight. Although all of my work is treated with a UV varnish, (either liquid or spray, dependent upon the piece) which will act as a layer of protection, nothing will offer 100% protection against strong sunlight.
